She stormed into her bedroom and slammed the door before he could get to her. “Laurie, please talk to me. I’m sorry, it didn’t mean anything!”

“Yea, right, A.J., I can’t believe a work you say and you know it!” She yelled through the heavy wooden door.

Peeling off her wet clothes she dropped them into an empty clothes basket. “Laurie, I think we need to talk, baby, open the door.”

“No, and don’t call me baby, I don’t want to hear it”

A.J. sighed, wondering what to do next.  Laurie tightened her robe around her waist and walked to her bureau pulling out clean undergarments.

           “Look, just let me inside.”

“Why don’t you just walk in, I’m sure you won’t find anything half as surprising as I did.”

          “Laurie, please.”

“A.J., No.”  She had to think carefully about what she said to him.

“Look, what you saw was nothing, I’m sorry!”

Anger boiled up inside of her again. “What the hell, A.J.?!"   She tossed her clothes onto her bed. “I use my key to go over and surprise you before you leave for vacation and catch you with your pants around your ankles and your bitch against the wall, what and I suppose to think?!”

Silence fell over the two rooms that were separated by the locked door.

           “I’m sorry,” he said softly.

“Oh, fuck you!” She exclaimed turning and walking into the bathroom.

She pulled back the green shower curtain and turned on the water. Leaning against the bathroom counter, she let all of her tears flow. How could he do this to her…..again. “Why was I foolish enough to take him back after the first time?” All Laurie wanted was the truth. Climbing into the shower, she let her thoughts drift away along with the steam in the shower.

Stepping out of the bathroom, she noticed that A.J. had finally calmed down. She lay across the bed, thinking about some of the things A.J. had yelled through the walls.

“Laurie you have to believe me. I want to talk to you.”

           Silence.

“You can’t stay in there forever and you know it… Laurie, please… talk to me” Her ignoring him was starting to get to him. “Damnit, Laurie, you’ve got to come out of there sometime and I’m going to be right here when you do!”

Tears ran out of the corners of her eyes as thoughts of the past day played in her head like a movie.  How could she do this to her again?  How could she let him do this again?  He had acted so innocent when it happened the first time.  She just couldn’t keep this going in this relationship.  She loved A.J. but it was inevitable that A.J. didn’t love her like he needed to.  She wanted out but A.J. wouldn’t let that happen.  She knew that she would have to take drastic measures.

A.J. tossed and turned on the couch before he drifted off to sleep.

She slowly opened the door to her bedroom and looked around the corner and into the den placing her puffy eyes on a sleeping A.J.  Laurie slowly tip toed back into her closed, picking up her bags.  Switching off all of the lights, and picking up all of the keys to her front door, including A.J.’s, she placed a note on the coffee table and left her house for good.
