Chapter Eight: Only a Moment

It's hard to explain
But when you know you know
I was so amazed by you
You had me and: 'hello’
I need you in my heart
My body, mind and soul
It only took a moment to take my breath away
Will u stay?

AJ, Brian, Nick and Rory sat at AJ’s kitchen table comfortably quiet. Nick and AJ were watching some morning cartoons. Rory was deep in the sports section of the newspaper as she crunched on her cereal. Brian was reading the business section and continuously stealing parts of Rory’s cereal.   They were their own dysfunctional family.

“Can you not get your own damn bowel of cereal? And aren’t you married? Why have you been in New York for so damn long?” She finally snapped, he had gotten on her last nerve when he bumped into her, disturbing her reading.

“Nick, are you not going to tell your girlfriend to be nicer to your friends?” Brian asked, trying to playfully get Rory in trouble.

Nick turned his head, only to wink at Rory and shook his head as he faced the TV. “Nope, she’s got a mind of her own. Not telling her to do anything she doesn’t believe.”

“Kiss ass,” Brian muttered when Rory started to laugh.

“He knows if he disagrees he won’t get any ass, so he’s a smarter boy than you. Again, aren’t you married? Does your wife not miss you at all?”

AJ laughed this time and leaned across to grab one of Rory’s pieces of toast, looking for her approval first.

“HEY!” Brian protested, “why is everyone picking on me? He just took your breakfast.”

“Yes, he also owns the place and he pays for the food AND he asked. I am the only one picking on you, because I am trying, that's the key word, to read the newspaper on my day off. I can’t do anything else, because it’s pouring outside.”

“Smart chick,” AJ said with a nod and turned back to the TV. “Where is Leigh any way?”

“She is working on a new film and thinks I would distract her if I hung around to much. Do you want me to leave? I know when I’m not wanted, I can take a hint.”

“No you can’t, you’ve been in the group for eight years,” Nick said with a laugh and high fived AJ.
Brian’s face fell and he stared at Nick, “you’re supposed to be my best friend, you sold out to a girl.”

Nick turned then, “No, I am just happy it’s not me we’re picking on and to put it exactly, that’s my girl.”

Rory shook her head and looked back into the newspaper. Mostly, to hide the blush across her face. He didn’t even try and she was red as a tomato.

“Ror, who won the Lakers game?” Nick asked as he laughed, looking away from Brian.

“Lakers, now shhh, I’m reading,” she scolded, she was knee deep in the game notes for the new players the Mets were going to sign.

“Yes, ma’am.” He winked and turned back to the TV.

“So what are we doing tonight?” AJ asked, once the cartoon came to a commercial.

“Don’t know bout y’all, I have plans,” Rory said with a wide grin.

All eyes went to Nick, “Not with me, apparently,” he said in a pout.

She shook her head with a grin, “I’m going to a hockey game at 7.”

“With whooo?” AJ asked, curiously, and wanting to be able to taunt Nick.

“My friend,” she said casually.

“Uh oh, Nickerz, sounds like you have competition,” Brian said sticking his tongue out.

“Not the jealous type,” Nick said smiling at Rory. She rolled her eyes and flipped the newspaper half over.

“Yeah, right,” AJ said in a scoff. “So have we met this friend? Not Case or Jackie, right?”

She shook her head with a scowl and then smiled. “Nope, my friend Zach, actually.”

“Zach?” Brian said staring at Nick.

“Zach as in Zachary?” AJ said, now also looking at Nick.

Nick rolled his eyes and bit his tongue, he was not going to be jealous, and he wasn’t the type.

“Yep, he’s six. I baby sit for him and his sister occasionally. He’s a sports nut and his dad has tickets for like every game. So no more teasing, the only thing Nick has to think about is what he wants to do with you two losers,” she said and made her way to the fridge for some more milk.
She looked over at the counter and tried her best not to blush and giggle. Good lord, just last night...and then after.... it seemed like all night. She had never remembered herself so needing and so ready over and over. To say that she was surprised was a down play of reality- she was acting like a sex crazed maniac, considering she was wondering if she could get Nick alone so she could be made love to one more time before she left. She never understood when people said wanting someone all the time, wanting to touch them always- now she did. She could just look at Nick and she wanted him.

As if he could read her thoughts, he stood up and walked towards her. His arms softly came around her from behind, “I wonder if AJ buttered his toast?”

“What about my toast? You two have nothing better to talk about than my breakfast?” AJ said scoffing. “Some fucking love life.”

Rory blushed and squirmed away from Nick, she hadn’t thought about that.  Nick’s laugh was felt, literally through her. Just like his heartbeat was in her ear, a sweet melody. She was getting sickening. She was resoundly glad to be going out with her friend that night. She needed some time away, to see if she could handle it. Of course she could, but she needed to be her---not her AND him.

“When do you go back to Florida?” she asked as she finally got away, after pecking his check.

His face dropped and then squinted in thought, “next week, I promised Brent I would be back for this party...but I could...”

Her fingers came to rest on his lush lips and she shook her head.  “I just wanted to know, no explanations.” She winked and walked back towards the table.

“Damn Nick, she’s better than most...you remember Mandy, she used to drill your ass about everything.” AJ said with a chuckle.

“But, Nicky, WHEN are you going to be home!” Brian said in a childishly girlish voice.

“But baby, you said you would spend EVERY waking minute with ME!” AJ countered and the two laughed.

Rory looked towards Nick and wasn’t surprised to see the soft blush on his cheeks.

“The poor girl was probably a sweetheart,” she commented, shaking her head.

“Oh, lord. You hear that, your girl’s a fan of your ex’s---now that is totally new.”

“I never said I was a fan, I just said leave it alone. God knows what will happen when I become the ex.” The sentence made was just a snide comment, taken as such by 3/4ths of the company. One, frowned at her phrasing and vowed to have a talk with her.

“We wouldn’t talk about you, Ror.  You’re still cool. Just don’t go whacko on us.”

“God, AJ, you say that and it makes me want to be a better woman. How does your wife deal with all of y’all?” Rory asked, nudging her shoulder against Brian’s.

“She doesn’t, mostly she deals with me...no comment....actually she has a worse time with the fans, than us.”

Rory’s face paled a little. They had been in a weird, dream world for a while. What would happen when...if...fans found out about her? She knew the type of crap she had said about their wives/girlfriends. Her doubts raised in her throat. Not that she truly cared what they thought, but could she handle being under such a fine looking glass?

“Babe,” Nick said, his eyes boring into her from across the table. She looked up and away, before he could catch her eyes. She knew he could tell most anything from her facial expressions, particularly her eyes.

“Hey, now...it’s not that bad, I swear. The older they get, the more they don’t care,” AJ said with a shrug, noticing the look on Rory.  He had seen it before-- personally.

“Besides, it’s not like there aren’t people who understand, Leigh, will be sure to answer any and all questions,” Brian said helpfully.

She shrugged her shoulders, “it’s not like I’ll run into fans, or anything. We stay pretty cooped up here, and then Nick,”  she said looking at him, with a forced smile ,“will be in Florida. It’s all good, they wouldn’t think I was anything more than a friend,” she said firmly, as if she was convincing herself. “Anyway, I am going to go and take a shower, I stink I know.” She put her dishes in the washer and made her way up the stairs.

“Nick?” Brian said softly.

“I need to talk to her,” Nick said softly. Knowing the next conversation was not going to be an easy one.

“She’s not like the rest of them, Nick. Like, Leigh, Kristin or Sarah.”

“I know, she’s my girlfriend,” Nick said sternly.

“Or Mandy, she’s...well.. she’s not a model or stick thin and completely confident,” AJ said softly.

“I know that AJ,” Nick bit out.

“She’s just more likely to get killed by them. She’s just not the perfect girl they expect you to be with....they’ll be ruthless.”

“I KNOW THAT!” Nick snapped and stormed from the table out towards the front door. He needed to go for a drive, he couldn’t go out on his boat, but he could get away for a while.

“I didn’t mean to piss him off, it’s just..” AJ started to say.

Brian nodded his head, “I know, man, he just knows what’s about to come.”

“And what exactly is that?” Rory asked, making her way back into the kitchen. She had heard every word and wasn’t about to sit back and just listen. She may have been the quite type but she had more than enough time to get comfortable with guys.

“Ror, we are just talking about how the fans would react to Nick and you,” AJ said simply.

“I heard every word, so don’t worry, I’m not offended. The fact of the matter is, no, I’m not drop dead gorgeous, but I’m not horrifying. I actually think fans will like me just a little bit more, that someone like Nick could like someone like me. The fact of the matter is, people are more likely to hate a Leighanne than a me. Simply because it gives them hope and shows what y’all are like. Nick is a good guy, he’s down to earth and he’s already had his blonde bimbo...no offense, Bri. But, the fact of the matter is, it doesn’t change anything I feel about him, and hopefully vice versa. I admit, it’s damn scary. I’m not a celebrity or used to people looking at me, but I’ll deal.”

“Well said,” Brian said with a small grin.

“I’m sorry,” AJ said with a small shrug.

“Don’t be, but why did he run off?” She asked, nodding towards the door.

“He always does when he’s not sure what he wants to do...or how to talk to someone.”

She nodded, “well, he’ll need to work on that. I’m a talk to girl, not run from...my ego can only take so much.” She grinned and turned back toward the stairs, wondering how to let Nick know he could talk to her.

<*><*><*><*><*><*>

She was in the shower no matter than a few minutes when the door opened. She turned to see his blonde head and didn’t know whether to try and cover up or open the door and blatantly seduce him. The shower door opened and there was Nick, gloriously naked. Tanned and unabashed by his sexuality, his eyes drifted over her form. For a moment she wanted to hide behind the corner, and then she realized what she wanted more was him. She leaned against the wall for a moment, letting his eyes drink her in. She liked the slightly intoxicated look that shone in his eyes. Needless to say, look in his eyes made her body tingle with anticipation and warmth pool in the core of her womanhood.

He didn’t say a word and he smirked when a blush swept across her features as she looked down. He was impressive.  “All because of you,” he whispered moving closer to her.

She took a deep breath and met his eyes. A stirring in her stomach caused her heart to leap and tattoo against her ribs. The water slid over his body like a fine sauce on a mouthwatering piece of cake.  His hair clung to his face and the moment he licked his lips she felt her knees falter. Her hands reached his temples and she pushed away from the wall. Slowly her hands moved his hair off his face, and brushed it back, her fingers delicately massaging him. His head moved to rest on her shoulder, and softly his lips bit at her neck and shoulders.

It was as if they were dancing, not caring they were as naked as the day they were born. Their bodies moved with one another, her kisses on his forehead and her hands moved to knead his back, slowly lowering to the taut muscles of his butt. “You have got to have the greatest ass,” she squeezed again and received a groan of appreciation.

He nibbled his way to her ear,“I’m going to lick every last drop off water off you.”

She shivered and clung to him. Only nodded and pulling his head to hers, their lips meeting fiercely. Over and over he devoured her lips in passionate kisses. His hands tracing the outlines of her breasts and teasingly drifting towards her center. She arched her back, hoping he would heal the ache that pulsed in her, that she knew pulsed in him.   But he dropped to his knees. His kissed drifted over her stomach and it was only his hands that kept her standing to onslaught of kisses. Slowly he pushed up and captured one taut nipple in his teeth, her moans vibrated the walls and she was positive she was going to explode from his suckling alone.

“You taste, so good,” his husky words sent another shiver of ache through her and she pulled at his hair until he stood up.

“Enough talk,” she whisper as her hand firmly grasped his erection enjoying the sight of his eyes rolled back from the pleasure her touch gave him. “I want you, in me, NOW” she demanded and pulled his mouth down to hers.

“God,” he moaned as he gently let his hand slide down her abdomen. His moan left his breath before he could stop, she was wet and hot, waiting for his touch.

“Nick,” his name came out no more than a pant from her lips.

He pulled her to him and gently and as carefully as he could picked her up so her legs wrapped around him.

“I’m too heavy,” she had started to protest, but he had started to enter her then and she was lost to all reason. “Oh, shit, Nick,” she moaned her head rolling back, nothing had ever felt that good.

He was sliding into the softest, hottest, tightest heaven he had ever known. When he was finally buried to a hilt, the both of their breathing ragged, he wondered if he could just stay their forever, at least knowing he would die a happy man. He slid out against her moan of protest and thrust back in so she shivered and he felt her womb. Over and over he thrust in and out devouring her with kisses and letting his body own hers and vice versa. It had never been this good, this hot, this incredibly amazing. Her eyes closed as she reached her climax and he watched with awe as she brinked her climax. She shuddered around him and pulled at him and if he were stronger he would have held back but he quickly pulled out and spilled his seed against her stomach as his mouth kissed her hungrily. Taking whatever energy he had left he kissed her and pulled her tightly against him, needing to feel every inch of her, to make sure this wasn't a dream.  She was trembling after they both regained their breaths.

“You ok?” he asked, as his forehead rest against hers.

She nodded and her glazed eyes looked into his with a huge grin, “Oh yeah,” she retorted comically.

“Good,” he said tenderly and dropped his lips over hers again, to taste her all over again.

The water ran ice cold and the screaming, sated for the moment, couple squealed and ran out. He gently wrapped a towel around her and was sure to dry off every last drop of water.

“It gets better with time?” she said with a half grin as he brushed her legs off.

He looked up and nodded, “that was perfection.”

She blushed slightly and bent down to him, “you were amazing,” she stated as she brushed his hair away from his face again. She brushed her lips against his, “but we do need to talk.”

He nodded, his face turning solemn. “I know, later?” he asked hopefully, his eyes alive with a fire she knew all too well.

“Promise me?” She said softly, her hands intertwined with his.

“Promise, now come closer, I want to get a good look at you,” he purred in his sensually husky voice and tugged at her hand until she finally did fall into his arms.

“We’re gonna be ok, my ego isn’t that fragile,” she said with a soft smile and traced his lips with her index finger.

“I know,  I...just don’t want anything to go wrong because of me. I don’t want this to...ever end, ” he said kissing her nose. “you feel too good.”

She giggled and dropped a soft tender kiss on his swollen lips.

“So one day at a time, we’ll work on it. Now nough’ talkin’ show me why you’re everyone’s favorite sex symbol.” She pulled his head down and was assaulted with a tender, passionate and completely emotional kiss that caused her toes to tingle and a smile to wash across her face. One day at a time, this would work.
